A large gathering from the world of culture and society gathered this morning to bid farewell to the painter Francisco Hernández, a native of Vélez-Málaga, who died yesterday at the age of 79 years.
Painters, sculptors, writers, politicians and friends of the artist joined his widow, Carmen Escalona, and his children, María Jesús, Carmen, Francisco and Marta, to pay their final respects. The chapel was installed in auditorium of the Centro de Estudios del Exilio, from where the funeral procession, headed by the mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Francisco Delgado Bonilla and the mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, made its way to the church of San Francisco.
Subsequently, the remains of the painter were moved to the cemetery of Velez-Malaga, where he was buried near the grave of the philosopher and thinker Maria Zambrano.
