The cost of the Metrobus ticket, the ten-trip ticket for metro and bus in Madrid, is set to rise by 29% as from the beginning of May. The transport company blames the increase on the cost of fuel and electricity.
The Metrobus ticket will cost €12.00 instead of €9.50 and the monthly subscription will rise by an average of 7%. A basic single journey ticket will remain at €1.50 for five stations but, from the sixth station onwards, the price will increase by €0.10 per station up to a maximum of €2.00.
The Madrid public transport system currently earns €980 million from ticket sales and is subsidised by the Regional Authority (€1,200 million), the municipal authorities (€200 million) and the State (€126 million).
