Two earthquakes today in the Alboran Sea were felt by residents of several coastal towns in Almeria.
The first quake, registering 4.0 on the Richter scale, occurred at 11:47 about 44 miles off the Almeria coast and was felt in Adra, Roquetas de Mar, El Ejido, Almeria city, Pechina and Benahadux. About a dozen aftershocks followed the main quake.
The second tremor, measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale and at a depth of ten kilometres, occurred at 13:10 and was felt mainly in the port of Adra in Almeria.
Experts believe that the quakes are part of a continuing movement to ‘release tension’ in the area.
