Council to request new walking trails in the Natural Park

At the next plenary session of the Council, a motion will be discussed to ask the Ministry of Environment of the Junta de Andalucía to improve and mark existing trails in the Natural Park and the creation of new, marked trails.

The motion highlights the need to seek new ways to increase ‘quality tourism’ as well as a diversification in order to contribute to the creation of new businesses that create additional employment in the town, especially in the winter months.

It is now thought that many people are looking for more than the usual sun and sand when on holiday.

I’d be very interested in visiting the Nerja / Torrox area, from Northern England, for winter walks (8 – 15 miles depending on difficulty) on newly marked trails, and I know of others who would be too. Take a look at the walking system in Austria. Yesterday I returned from Austria, it was my 7th summer holiday there. I return there because their Council have extensive well marked summer walking trails in their traditionally winter ski resorts. They are doing the reverse of what you want to do, i.e. getting extra business from summer visitors. I really like Nerja, but I’ve been put off in recent years, because the last time I visited (approximately 6 years ago) the countryside had been developed and changed so much that the leaflets that I was using were out of date, and this made the walks very frustrating. I’ve been waiting for an up to date book or leaflets – can you recommend any? Meanwhile other countries have benefitted from my business (hotels, eating-out etc.) during the last 6 winters.
