National Police in Granada have arrested seven people, three of whom were already in jail, in connection with kidnapping, robbery and drug trafficking.
The gang, a group of hardened criminals and habitual offenders, kidnapped two of their victims in broad daylight using firearms for intimidation. In one case they achieved their objective after holding their victim captive for five days, receiving €15,000 for his release.
In the other case, no ransom was forthcoming and the victim was subjected to humiliating treatment.
Around 140 police officers were involved in the operation to break up the gang. In various raids, police seized a number of weapons, a jeep, 185 marijuana plants and one kilo of hashish.
