India has risen rapidly through the ranks in the past year to become the top spam-spewing nation on the planet, according to a report by security firm Sophos. Almost 10% of all junk mail sent across the web is either from or passed through computers in India.
It is thought that The inexperience of many first-time net users in India has led to many falling victim to hi-tech criminals by not taking measures to block the malware that turns PCs into spam robots.
About 80% of all junk email is thought to be routed through hijacked PCs. Sophos estimates that about 9.3% of all junk mail travels through Indian computers. Next comes the US with 8.3% and South Korea with 5.7%.
