SEPLA has called off the twice-weekly strikes by Iberia pilots ahead of Government arbitration in the dispute.
The strikes were set to continue every Monday and Friday until July 20th. The industrial action by pilots, a protest against the setting up of the low cost airline Iberia Express, have cost Iberia around €3 million per day and resulted in the cancellation of hundreds of flights each week.
Earlier intervention by the Ministry of Development saw the former minister Manuel Pimentel appointed as arbitrator. Pimentel delivered his report on March 25th but it was rejected by all parties to the dispute.
The new attempt at arbitration will be obligatory. Iberia and SEPLA will have to agree on an arbitrator or, if they cannot, one will be appointed by the Ministry of Development.
