Guardia Civil officers in Chiclana de la Frontera, Cádiz, have arrested nine people aged between 23 years and 36 years allegedly involved in at least 32 thefts from homes in the area, often while the occupants were sleeping.
Two of the detainees have been remanded in custody, the remainder have been released on bail.
The police investigation began in January following a spate of robberies at homes in Chiclana and the area, the thieves unconcerned about whether or not the house was occupied at the time.
Police were able to identify the members of the gang and the role each played in the robberies and then, armed with a search warrant, conducted raids on four premises and arrested nine people. Numerous items, from jewellery to computers, were seized during the raids and are now at the Guardia Civil headquarters in Cádiz ready to be returned to their proper owners.
