Once you get past Parque Verano Azul there are few places to cross the rio Chillar without getting your feet wet. The one ‘proper’ footbridge, near the Verano Azul bus depot, is now a shadow of its former self and downright dangerous.
The wood is rotten, the railings on one side have collapsed and the whole thing is pretty shaky. Barriers have now been put up at each end to discourage its use.
Apart from stepping stones and the odd makeshift crossings – planks of wood, crates etc – the next ‘dry foot’ opportunity to cross is near the old cement factory.
In the past, when the rio Chillar was dry for much of the year, this was not much of a problem, but these days the river flows all year round.
