A British national, the subject of an international arrest warrant and living under an assumed name, has been arrested in Alhaurín el Grande for allegedly illegally detaining his ex-partner and two young children.
The woman ended the relationship in January and returned to England. In May, she came back along with her sister to allow the father to see the children. The sister was allowed to return to the UK but the woman and the two children, both under two years of age, were prevented from leaving by the ex-partner.
The sister informed the British authorities who, in turn, contacted the Spanish police and an investigation was started.
Eventually the mother and her children were located, captive on an urbanisation in Alhaurín el Grande. Weapons, including guns, were found at the home.
The couple had originally fled to Spain after the man, out on leave from prison, decided not to return to prison.
