Iván, the CD Nerja goalkeeper who attacked the referee during the Third Division Group 9 match against Huétor Tájar on May 5th has been suspended for three years and fined €1,000.
After being shown a red card during the match, Iván punched and kicked referee Juan Carlos Crespo Sánchez causing him to be admitted to hospital with various cuts and bruises. Juan Carlos Crespo Sánchez required stitches to one eye and had to wear a neck brace for several days.
Iván has been provisionally discharged by CD Nerja. The president of the club, Juan Pascual, condemned the actions of the goalkeeper but believes the punishment is excessive and intends to submit an appeal. The referee is also intending to launch criminal proceedings against Iván.
The match against Huétor Tájar had to be abandoned with the score at 0-0.
