Rincón de la Victoria Council has finally approved the new Municipal Ordinance for Cleaning Public Spaces and Integral Management of Solid Waste which aims to raise public awareness of environmental matters by setting out the regulations relating to rubbish and its disposal and introducing fines of up to €3,000 for very serious infringements.
The Councillor for the Environment, Sergio Diaz, said that although the new ordinance contains a section on administrative penalties for breaches of the law, the law’s main purpose to make citizens aware of the importance of keeping public spaces in good condition.
A very serious offence, meriting a fine of up to €3,000, would be organising an event without having arranged for cleaning and waste disposal.
A serious offence, meriting a fine of between €751 to €1,500, would be the failure to deposit the waste in containers in the form and conditions required by the law or when there is damage to the environment or minor infringements that cause damage to municipally owned property.
A minor offence, also meriting a fine, would be depositing bags, cardboard, garden cuttings (basically any type of waste) outside or around a container even if the container is already overflowing or depositing waste in the containers outside the specified hours.
