National Police and Tax Office agents have dismantled an organisation involved in smuggling cocaine and hashish into Spain by sea from Melilla, with 15 people so far being detained.
During the operation, a boat carrying 600 kilos of hashish was intercepted near the isla de Alborán off the Almeria coast. In total, 632 kilos of hashish and 7.9 kilos of cocaine were seized in the operation along with guns, vehicles and other items.
The arrests were made in the ports of Málaga, Cádiz and Almería. In addition, the investigation led to the discovery of the existence of a network operating in the Barcelona districts of Vic and Molins de Rei whose members were responsible for collecting the drugs from the Costa del Sol and Costa Brava for onward shipment to the rest of Europe.
