The Mayor of El Borge, Salvador Fernández Marín, is the first to arrive at work in the morning and his first task has become dusting, sweeping and mopping his office and adjacent areas, helping to keep the toilets clean and emptying bins where necessary.
The municipality, like most, is in debt and has had to make plans to balance the books for a change in order to qualify for loans to pay debts to suppliers. The municipality had two cleaners on temporary three month contracts but the Mayor decided to reduce this to one and lend a hand with the office cleaning.
Other functionaries have also followed suit, cleaning their own office areas. The remaining contract cleaner is responsible for the Health Centre and the school.
The Mayor and his staff make sure the offices and public areas are clean and tidy before they open to the public.
