At 08:29, in the middle of the morning rush hour, ten metro trains in various stations in Madrid were effectively out of action for 9 minutes after protesters activated the ’emergency’ alarms.
The action was carried out while the trains were in the station and when the train doors were open in order to avoid damage or injury to passengers.
A group called ‘stopaltarifazo’ (stop tariff hikes), protesting against the increase in fares, claimed responsibility for the coordinated action which left trains immobilised in the stations of Embajadores, El Carmen, Argüelles, Concha Espina, Alvarado, Sevilla, Callao, Colombia, Saenz de Baranda and Antón Martín.
