It is the good citizens of Coín who will be required to dig even deeper into their pockets to make up for the years of poor management of public funds with increases in water rates, refuse collection and the use of cultural and sporting venues.
The cost of water is set to rise by 30%, an increase which large consumers of water will notice more than most. At the same time, the Mayor described the water supply system as ‘very poor’, with an obsolete network and with about one-third of the water being lost en route through leakage.
The Mayor estimates that the water supply network requires an investment of around €2 million.
The cost of refuse collection is set to rise and will be based on the assessed value of the property. The rate will be 0.00025% of the assessed value (valor catastral).
Users of cultural facilities will have to pay 22% more and those practicing sport will have to pay 10% more. The increase is being justified on the grounds that the current charges barely cover half of the actual cost of the service.
There is some good news, however. The performance of minor building works will no longer require the posting of a bond and all organisations will be able to apply for subsidies and grants on an equal basis.
