Police have arrested 28 people and dismantled a drug trafficking network operating in Vélez-Málaga, seizing over 10 tons of hashish in the process.
The operation, codenamed ‘Melli’ because the leaders of the organisation are twins, began last September. Raids were also carried out on nine properties in Almayate and Torre del Mar and police seized vacuum packaging machines, cash, pistols, rifles, six vehicles and other items. The financial assets of the ringleaders have also been frozen.
The detainees are 20 Spanish, 7 Moroccan and one French. Eight have been remanded in custody and the rest have been released on bail.
The value of the drugs seized is around €10 million.
