The Council is calling upon the Ministry of Works and Housing of the Junta de Andalucia to pay the outstanding amounts from the 2008 Autonomous Housing Rehabilitation Programme, a scheme whereby local residents, particularly the elderly, unemployed and disabled, would receive financial assistance for essential home renovations.
Fourteen residents benefited from the scheme and the works included renovations relating to the structural integrity of buildings, problems with humidity, safety and adaptation for those with disabilities.
The idea was for the Junta de Andalucia to pay 50% of the cost when the works were half completed and the remaining 50% upon full completion. However, only the first 50% was ever paid out and many of the beneficiaries remain indebted to the contractors who carried out the work.
