This year, the Council has decided not to grant authorisation for stalls selling seasonal fruits, such as pears, grapes and figs, on the streets of Torre del Mar and has extended the measure to include greengrocers who display fruits on stalls outside shops.
The Council has decided to enforce the Health Regulations which expressly forbid the use of public thoroughfares to display fruits.
The fruit sellers have been a common sight on the streets of Torre del Mar for years, but have expanded their business to not only include the seasonal fruits but also just about every other fruit. Greengrocers who use the streets to promote their produce also fall under the new regulations.
The decision is intended to improve the ‘image’ of the town as well as prevent the sale of agricultural products of dubious origin on the streets.
