Spain are through to the final of Euro 2012 after defeating Portugal 4-2 on penalties in a game where the first shot on goal didn’t come until the 67th minute of play.
A lot of good passing up and down the field but no-one in either team able to conjure up a decent chance at goal, and it all came down to penalties.
Despite the lack of goals, or even attempts, it was an interesting, almost tactical encounter and it could have gone either way during normal time. Spain dominated the first period of overtime but, once again, couldn’t find the net.
Fabregas was once again the hero for Spain as they attempt to defend their title, just as he was four years ago in a 4-2 semi-final penalty shootout against Italy, after Bruno Alves missed the decisive penalty for Portugal.
