Three establishments in the centre of town have had articles removed from in front of their premises as part of a crackdown on illegal occupation of public thoroughfares.
The offending establishments were apparently guilty of using too much space, not having a licence or were in debt to the Council for the relevant licence fees. The confiscated items have been placed in storage and can be reclaimed by the businesses when they pay their fines, debts owed to the Council and the costs incurred for removal and storage of the offending items.
The ‘campaign’ is set to continue during the next few days. The Council stresses the need for sufficient space to be left on the streets to allow access by the Emergency Services.
