Police have arrested two Málaga residents, a businessman and an employee, who travelled to Madrid for the sole purpose of robbing banks, on one occasion robbing three branches within a three hour period.
The investigation began on June 20th 2012 after three banks were robbed in under three hours, all three robberies being carried out in the same manner. The robbers, dressed in suits and wearing sunglasses, waited patiently in the queue. When it was their turn to be served, the men donned crash helmets and threatened the cashier with guns and knives.
After obtaining cash they fled on a motorcycle.
Eight days later, a bank in Salamanca was robbed in exactly the same way, the thieves making off with €1,800. The following day, they attempted to rob a bank in the Chamberí district but were recognised by one of the staff and denied access to the bank.
The robbers fled to a local bar where, some time later, they were located by the police and duly arrested. They had in their possession two knives, a fake gun, the crash helmets used to disguise their identities and the getaway motorcycle. Both have been remanded in custody.
