In the early hours of Tuesday morning the Guardia Civil intercepted a small boat carrying 23 Algerians about 2.5 miles east of Villaricos, a small village in the municipality of Cuevas del Almanzora, Almería province.
The immigrants were transferred to the Guardia Civil patrol boat which then had to stop en route in Puerto de Garrucha as one of the passengers required medical attention. Once the passenger had been seen by medics, they were all taken to Almeria port, arriving there at around 07:00.
They were then handed over to the National Police.
