The Junta de Andalucia is apparently working overtime, if you can imagine that, to adapt the blueprint for the extension of the marina at Caleta de Vélez to incorporate the requirements of the environmental impact study.
The environmental impact study, from November 2011, pointed out several potential threats to endangered species in the area, such as patella ferruginea, the Ribbed Mediterranean Limpet. The draft project will now be amended and rewritten to enable the tender process to begin.
The extension to fishing and recreational facilities in Caleta de Vélez would see the port almost double in size to around 12,000 square metres with an extra 460 berths for boats. The project, approved in 2008 but continually delayed, is set to cost in the region of €50 million.
