Around two hundred people, a mixture of employees and parents of young school children, have been protesting outside the Ministry of Education in Granada.
They claim that the Junta de Andalucia is three months behind in the payment of subsidies to schools and have not even specified a payment schedule. According to the protesters, the overall debt could be around €9 million.
The protesters represent various interested parties from the 134 primary schools in the province. They say that schools are struggling to pay salaries and suppliers and as many as 1,000 jobs could be under threat if the Junta does not pay its debts.
The Ministry of Education says it has a cash flow problem but is looking into ways of meeting its commitments.
