According to the National Federation of Self-Employed (ATA), the government authorities in Andalucia (regional, provincial and municipal councils and public companies) owe €692 million to the self-employed and small businesses in the region in the period up to June.
The grand total government debt in all autonomous regions to the self-employed and small businesses is said to be in the region of €4.873 billion. This figure includes amounts not paid out during the first ‘adjustment plan’ whereby the Central Government provided funds for the payment of debts to suppliers.
According to the ATA, after the initial injection of liquidity for the payment of outstanding debts to suppliers under the Adjustment Plan, the authorities could once again be building up their debts towards previous levels, basically using the self-employed and small businesses as a means of borrowing money. And who would have seen that coming?
Cataluña has the largest debt, €809 million, followed by Andalucia, €692 million, Valencia, €677 million, and Madrid, €503 million.
