The Provincial Environment Delegation has obviously not yet heeded the Council request for a barrier to be placed by the large eucalyptus tree at the entrance to Los Cahorros and the old quarry to prevent entry by vehicles and unauthorised parking.
As a result, everyone is ignoring all the signs recently put up along the riverbed and the road to Los Cahorros (although search as I might, I could only find these two signs) and parking as normal.
Cars to continue to park, as normal, all along the riverbed, although it must be said, in an orderly fashion.
And still the footwear is being abandoned.
The area around Los Cahorras is actually quite tidy, but all along the rio Chillar right up to the gorge and the upper waterfall there are cans, bags, bottles and all sorts of items which have been discarded by visitors.
The stretch of the rio Chillar from El Playazo to Los Cahorros is even worse, with large items – bags, helmets and even the occasional scooter – often to be seen in or around the river as well as the ‘normal’ cans, bottles and bags.
The Council is providing a parking area in calle Mirto for people visiting Los Cahorros but it is a very long, unshaded walk from there.
There would seem to be a far more pressing need to combat the general problem of rubbish, discharge of raw sewage into the river and, in town, dog poo, rather than a few people parking along the riverbed.
