A worker who was seriously injured in an explosion at a fireworks factory in La Gorgoracha in the municipality of Vélez de Benaudalla (Granada) has died from his injuries at the Hospital de Traumatología in Granada.
His wife, also injured in the blast, remains in a serious condition of the ICU at the same hospital in Granada having suffered serious burns.
The couple, originally from Valencia, had been working together at the factory since June and had 35 years experience in the industry.
The factory, which covers eight hectares, is divided into separate reinforced structures and the assembly cabins are designed in such a way as to prevent a chain reaction in the event that something goes wrong, as in this case.
The factory has been in existence for over 100 years and, according to the manager, a large investment has been made during the past ten years to ensure that the facility complies with all the safety measures required by law.
