Marbella has joined the growing list of towns along the Málaga coast by installing environmentally friendly ‘eco ashtrays’ at a number of locations.
The smoking laws mean that more people are taking to open areas to have a fag, as smoking is banned inside public buildings and places of work. In addition, cigarette filters are not biodegradable and can take up to ten years to decay. In the meantime, they not only look unsightly but can clog up such things as water systems.
In Marbella, eco ashtrays are being deployed at a number of beaches, sports centres and in the Nagüeles, Vigil de Quiñones and Arroyo de la Represa parks. The ashtrays don’t cost the Council any money as they are also an advertising medium.
