The strike by rubbish collectors in Rota, Cádiz province, has been called off after an agreement was reached between the unions and the cleaning company FCC.
The strike began on Monday and led to tons of rubbish cluttering the streets as minimum service levels were inadequate due to the tripling of the population during the summer months.
Unions and management agreed to a 2% cut in the wages of workers as from September, a wage freeze in 2013 and an increase in working hours from 35 to 37 per week. Negotiations on a new collective agreement will resume in 2014.
