The Association of Environmental and Consumer Education, ADEAC, has informed Nerja Council that the Blue Flags may once again be hoisted on Toreecilla and Burriana beaches.
The Blue Flags were withdrawn due to a number of deficiencies spotted during a random check of the beaches by ADEAC officials, these deficiencies included:
Torrecilla beach: broken PA, lack of explanation of meaning of warning flags, inadequate signalling of navigation channel.
Burriana beach: rubbish piled up outside the containers provided for the purpose, lack of oxygen equipment for the rescue service, out of date information posters relating to the beach.
The Council was given ten days to rectify the deficiencies, which it appears to have done successfully.
The Council has once again stressed that none of the deficiencies listed by ADEAC had anything to do with the quality of water at the beaches.
Nerja became the first municipality to have ‘Blue Flag’ status withdrawn, temporarily losing all four flags. The Blue Flags for El Playazo and Maro beaches remain withdrawn.
