The Government intends to introduce a ‘green cent’ surcharge on the price of natural gas in order to reduce the tariff deficit in the electricity sector – so nothing to do with ‘green’, just another tax.
Motor fuel will not be affected as it is already the subject of such a tax and excise duties and other taxes have already been increased recently.
In July 2012, 48.29% of the price per litre of petrol and 42.69% of a litre of diesel corresponded to taxes.
It is surprising that no politician has come up with renaming ‘income tax’ as ‘green fee’, IVA as ‘green surcharge’ etc etc and declaring the country a ‘tax haven’. Someone would fall for it, no doubt.
