After announcing on Tuesday that the assistance available for unemployed people with dependants is to rise by €50 to €450, the government is now looking at ways of reducing the number of people benefiting from the scheme.
One possibility being studied, proposed by deputy Prime Minister Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, is to exclude young people living with their parents if the income of the parents exceeds a certain level.
The Government is also looking at tighter controls to avoid giving the €450 assistance under the Plan Prepara to those people already receiving some other form of social assistance.
The youth sector, of course, has the highest unemployment rate in the country by quite a margin.
