A 21 year old youth has been arrested in Málaga on suspicion of starting several fires, his reason for causing the fires being that he ‘wanted to be a fireman’.
The fires occurred in the La Mosca district of Málaga, the last one taking place on Monday morning in La Cerrajerilla.
The Emergency Services received a phone call reporting that a bush was on fire and the police went to the scene to check it out. Firemen also arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. A bottle of alcohol, used to start the fire, was found near the bush.
The person who made the call to the Emergency Services was at the scene and according to the police database, there had been three similar calls from the same telephone. The police then questioned the youth, asking him why he was in such a remote area at that time of the morning.
The youth told the police he had been in his car with his girlfriend when he noticed the fire. The story left the police with doubts and they contacted the youth’s girlfriend to verify his story and she denied having been present at any time.
The youth then confessed to starting the fires, saying that he wanted to be a firemen and enjoyed watching them do their work. He was detained and sent for psychiatric evaluation.
