The CCOO and UGT unions have asked the Public Prosecutor to look into the two accidents at rubbish collection points in Benalmádena in the past ten days, one of which proved fatal.
The unions accuse the Council of not fulfilling safety obligations, adding that financial cuts mean contracts are being offered to companies who charge the least money and, as a result, safety measures are compromised.
The Council denies any such accusations and says that there is no connection between the two, similar accidents.
Meanwhile, the Labour Inspectorate of the Junta de Andalucia has opened an investigation into the two accidents and the use of the underground rubbish collection points in Benalmádena has been suspended until safety checks have been carried out.
