Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has stated that no decision has been made yet as to whether (or when) Spain will request a bailout, adding that he will not accept outside conditions should the situation arise.
Rajoy said that he is looking at the conditions relating to a bailout but insisted that no decision has yet been made. He said that he expected everyone to be reasonable but would not like, and could not accept, being told which policies had to be cut.
Speaking on TV, Mr Rajoy promised that pensioners would not be affected by any decisions.
Usual translation of such political speak: Decision already made, conditions will be accepted and pensioners will join those who suffer the consequences. Subsequent apology, ‘we had no choice’.
