One woman is believed missing and three other people were injured late last night after a water channel burst in the Valdelabarca district of Arenas de Cabrales, Asturias, causing flooding and landslides of earth and rocks.
The incident occurred shortly before midnight with several people reporting that there was a breach in the water channel, operated by the company Eon, and that four houses were affected by flooding and landslides.
Three people were injured in the incident and are being treated in the hospital in Arriondas. Two of the injured, a 79 year old woman and an 81 year old man, were only slightly wounded but the third victim, a 55 year old man, has more serious injuries.
Those in the affected houses were unable to leave their homes due to the flooding and the falling rocks and had to be rescued by the Emergency Services. During the rescue it was learned that one woman is apparently missing.
Firemen are this morning conducting a search of the area for the missing woman. The water has drained away but there is much mud and debris remaining.
