The Councillor for Tourism in Competa, Tom Ferber (PP), died on Sunday at the age of 69 years after a four year battle against cancer. He was buried on Monday at the local cemetery.
Tom Ferber, a British national, moved to Competa nine years ago when he retired and in 2007 was elected to the Council and became Councillor for Tourism. He was also instrumental in setting up the Foreigners Department in Competa and the architect of the creation of volunteerism in the tourist office whereby it provides information in 14 languages.
He was also involved in the creation of a series of hiking trails in the area and was the editor of the recently published guides to Cómpeta.
