Nerja Council is set to ask the Department of Coasts for permission to write a project to restore the former watchtower on Torrecilla beach, currently little more than a pile of stones.
The restoration of this tower has long been an ambition of the Council but their approaches to various departments and administrations over the years have not proved fruitful.
Many of the watchtowers along the Málaga coast have been selected for restoration but most have more of the original tower remaining. Restoration is costly, as it involves using authentic masonry, either from the original tower or from another building of the same era.
However, Nerja Council is hoping to get permission to draft the project and if this is granted, funding would then be sought.
