The minority government in Torrox of Mayor Francisco Muñoz (PSOE) could once again be under threat from the IU with the support of the PIU and PA as talk of a censure motion drifts through the air.
Following the last municipal elections, the PP offered a pact with the IU under which the position of Mayor would be shared but this was rejected by the IU. Since then, the IU has met formally with the PP on two occasions to discuss the situation.
The IU leader,Antonio Toro, is still trying to remove Muñoz and has stated that he is willing to take on the position of Mayor if the PP of Oscar Medina will assist. However, Toro is not willing to share the position of Mayor, claiming that the combination of IU, PIU and PA makes them the majority opposition in the municipality.
At the last election, the PSOE of Francisco Muñoz gained six of the seventeen seats, PP five, IU three, PIU two and the PA one seat. Failure to agree any pact meant that Muñoz formed a minority government.
