A 26 year old British youth from Bolton, spending a few days holiday with friends in Benalmádena Costa, was knocked down and killed on Friday in a hit and run incident in avenida Antonio Machado.
At around 05:00 on Friday morning, a police patrol noticed a body on the pavement in avenida Antonio Machado, about 500 metres from plaza de Solymar. An examination of the youth showed that he had died on the spot and showed all the signs of having been hit by a car.
Furthermore, there was evidence that the youth had been forced against the fencing along the road.
Police immediately put out an alert to other areas in case there were any reports of a vehicle with damage coinciding with that of the incident being attended by a service unit.
Within an hour, a National Police patrol in Torremolinos found a car with damage consistent with the remains that had been found at the scene and they proceeded to arrest the alleged driver, a 26-year Spanish national, who has been charged with the alleged crimes of manslaughter and failure to provide assistance.
