Two armed thieves managed to get away with an estimated €8,000 after threatening staff at the Banco Popular in avenida de Los Boliches, Fuengirola.
The two thieves gained access to the bank from an adjacent building with which it shared a common courtyard, sawing through the bars on the window of the ladies bathroom. There the thieves hid until two members of staff arrived at the bank late in the afternoon.
The thieves, wearing scarves over their faces and waving guns, shackled and gagged the bank staff and set about robbing the bank. The thieves were unable to access the safe due to the timer mechanism and so had to content themselves with money destined to refill the ATM, estimated to be about €8,000.
The thieves then fled, leaving the two staff members bound and gagged in the office. The staff were able to free themselves and alerted the police.
