The Andalucian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has confirmed an outbreak of legionella in Osuna, Sevilla, and is taking steps to control the situation.
The first case was detected on October 1st in a 72 year old man who was treated at the Hospital de la Merced in Osuna and has now been discharged.
The second confirmed case was that of an 84 year old woman who died on October 6th as a result of muñlti-bacterial complications.
The third confirmed case is an 86 year old woman who was admitted to hospital on October 12th and is recovering satisfactorily.
A fourth case, as yet unconfirmed as legionella, is a 76 year old man. The authorities are awaiting the results of laboratory tests.
As a precautionary measure, the Health Department has shut down all ornamental fountains in the municipality as well as a sprinkler system in a park and two cooling towers of a company located in the city.
