The Junta de Andalucia has approved a decree of extraordinary and urgent measures whereby it will assume direct responsibility for the payment of benefits to employees of a number of companies affected by restructuring processes. This will affect 1,383 former employees of Santana, Delphi, Boliden, Astilleros and the insurance company APRA Leven.
The former employees of several of these companies have been carrying out protests and demonstrations for several years.
The Governing Council also approved an exceptional grant to the University of Sevilla.
The Junta de Andalucia will assume the direct payment, without intermediaries, of the social benefits of the 1,383 former employees.
The cost of these benefits and grants will be €14.9 million per year for the next 14 years.
