A Court in Marbella is investigating the cause of injuries suffered by a baby who was admitted to the Costa del Sol Hospital last week with multiple skull fractures. The parents, a British couple, have been arrested.
In the early hours of last Thursday, the parents took the child to the emergency medical centre in Marbella. Tests carried out by the paediatric unit revealed that the child had suffered severe internal injuries as well as fractures to the skull and bleeding.
The type of injuries activated the standard protocols for a possible case of abuse and the National Police began an investigation.
Officers met with the parents, a young British couple on holiday on the Costa del Sol, and took individual statements. The parents apparently offered conflicting accounts of what had happened and as a result they were both arrested.
In court, the couple alleged that the baby had been hit on the head by a ball while they were on the beach the previous day and, alarmed by his cries during the night, had taken him to the hospital.
The baby is currently in the Hospital Materno Infantil where his condition is stable.
