Benalmádena Council has voted to leave FAMP, the the Federation of Municipalities and Provinces in Andalucia, saying that it sees little point in remaining a member of an organisation that does not represent the municipality and its residents, or any PP controlled municipality for that matter, yet costs them in the region of €6,000 per year.
FAMP is seen as serving only the interests of the minority PSOE and the Junta de Andalucia, favouring municipalities of the same political persuasion, while the reality of the situation is that the PP controls 265 municipalities (85%), 22 of the 25 largest towns, all 8 regional capitals and 5 provincial councils.
