Three people died and two others are in a critical condition in hospital after suffering cardiac arrests during a Halloween party in Madrid Arena. The victims are aged between 18 and 25 years.
The Madrid Arena, which has a capacity of 10,000, was the scene of a private Halloween party organised by the company Diviertt and with a ticket price of 25 euros.
The Emergency Services were called at 04:05 and were on the scene within two minutes. They were joined by various other medical teams, mobile ICU’s and ambulances, a total of 50 personnel all told.
Two of the victims, young women, died in the infirmary at the scene, despite the best efforts of medical staff carrying out CPR for at least thirty minutes. The third victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital Clínico.
Two other victims, in critical condition, were taken to the Hospital Doce de Octubre and the Fundación Jiménez Díaz.
The National Police are investigating the incident. The cause of death is thought to be cardiac arrest as a result of traumatic pressure and one possibility is that the five people suffered a fall and, due to the large number of people attending the event, were crushed.
