As expected, the majority PP government passed the motion to suspend the production of a new PGOU, something the Council believes will save them €400,000. The motion to freeze rates for 2013 and increase taxes based on the Consumer Price Index was also approved. This will mean a rise of 1.9%.
The motion also called for the introduction of a ‘rubbish tax’, which is expected to be around €3 which the Council was quick to point out is less than in the neighbouring towns of Torrox (€9) and Frigiliana (€7).
The rubbish tax is a legal requirement under the Central Government’s Adjustment Plan which allows municipalities to pay off some of their debts and requires them to balance their books.
