Five years ago, at the start of the financial crisis in Spain, the number of families evicted from their homes during the first quarter of the year due to the inability to pay their mortgages was 995. This year, the last quarter has seen 4619 families evicted from their homes.
Since 2007, a total of 77,519 families have lost their homes in Andalucia, at the same time building up huge debts to the financial institutions involved, according to the General Council of the Judiciary.
In 2007 there were 108,200 households where all the family members were unemployed. In 2012 the figure is a staggering 449,200 households.
