The Coordinator for Infant Schools in Andalucia has called for an assembly outside the Andalucian Ministry of Education building in edificio Torretriana, Sevilla, to protest about debts owed by the Junta de Andalucia. The gathering is from 11:00 to 13:00 today, Monday November 12th, and the action is expected to affect 80% of nursery schools.
The action is not being described by the coordinator as strike action or closure, but a ‘fun and festive’ act by all affected educational facilities. It will, however, result in the cessation of activities in the schools during the ‘festivities’, with only bare minimum staffing levels for those children whose parents cannot make alternative arrangements. If it looks like a duck…
Although the Junta de Andalucia stresses that education and health are top priority, and have been in conflict with the Central Government over proposed cuts and reforms, they have reportedly stated that they are not going to pay the outstanding amounts because they have no money. An all too familiar story.
The Junta de Andalucia has, however, stated that it has the intention to try and reach a reasonable and realistic agreement.
